POSTPARTUM DOULA SERVICES

I like to meet with my Postpartum Clients at least once before the birth of their baby to discuss what their expectations of the postpartum period are and to define my role as your Postpartum Doula. There is no charge for this first meeting and it is obligation free. Should you decide to secure my service, a retainer fee is due which will be applied to the first three hours of post partum service. My fee ranges from $20-30 per hour (the amount varies due to the services expected but is agreed upon at our prenatal consultation).

A few hours after the birth of your baby, you (or a designated family member) should contact me to inform me of when you may need my services to begin (forty-eight hours notice is preferred)  If I am not contacted on the day of the birth then I can’t guarantee my availability to begin within the first few days postpartum.  I am on call for my clients beginning 2 weeks before their due date. This means that I will not book other Postpartum Clients for the period from two weeks before to four weeks after your due date.

I am available between 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday to Friday (with a minimum of 3 hours per day) for a maximum of 6 hours per day.  We can discuss what days and times fit your needs at the time you let me know of your baby's birth.  It is recommended that every other day, rather than everyday will work best for most new families. .

I will let you know of times that I am unavailable to provide support. I will make every effort to cover those times by arranging for a back-up doula. Please be aware that I also provide birth doula services. I may need to cancel on short notice. You will not be charged for hours if I cancel to attend a birth unless we can arrange to have the back-up fill in. 24 hours notice is required when canceling scheduled hours, except in the case of emergency.

As a Postpartum Doula, I provide the following:

* Mother care and companion

* Support and guidance

* Breastfeeding support/instruction

* Baby care instruction (feeding, bathing, cord care, swaddling, etc..)

* Infant care, while mother rests, or takes a walk.

* Sibling care

* Meal preparation/clean-up

* Shopping & errands

* Help to keep house straightened

* Baby’s Laundry

* Please note, the main role of a postpartum Doula is a knowledgeable “companion” to the new mother.

As a Postpartum Doula, I do not:

* give medical advice or perform medical tasks - I am not a physician or midwife. I am educated in the

     normal postpartum recovery period and infant care.  If I feel that there is a problem, I will advise you to

     contact either your care provider or the baby’s doctor.

* Baby sit or stay alone with older children for an extended period of time.

* Perform any major household tasks

* Scrub bathrooms

* Scrub floors

* Clean refrigerators or ovens

* Move furniture

* Clean windows

* Any chore requiring a ladder

  * I reserve the right to refuse to perform any duties that I feel are out of my scope of practice or may endanger my physical well being.  If I feel that my services are being abused, I reserve the right to terminate our arrangement. There will be no refund under these circumstances..

Gift certificates are available for Postpartum Services upon request.
